Doing More Than Just Less Harm
At Halcyon Mawella, sustainability isn’t a buzzword — it’s the foundation of everything we do. From how we build and source, to how we cook, clean, and care for our guests, our approach is grounded in a deep respect for this place and the people who call it home.
We’re proud to be a hotel that gives more than it takes.
Where Travel Meets Heart
The Prajava Gama Foundation
Created to support and uplift the local community, the Prajava Gama Foundation connects the world of travel with the needs and talents of the villages around us. Our focus is on creating meaningful, long-term opportunities for local families — especially those from Mawella’s fishing community — to thrive within the tourism industry.

What we’re doing:
- Supporting hospitality training and job placement for young people in the bay
- Operating a village-run factory producing natural soaps, jams, baked goods, and ice cream for the hospitality industry
- Helping launch a village shop where women can sell handmade products directly to guests Offering ongoing education, workshops, and skills training

Sustainability in Practice
We believe true sustainability goes beyond doing less harm — it’s about making decisions that actively benefit the local environment and economy.
How we care for Mawella Bay:
- ¼-Acre Organic Garden – supplying herbs, spices, and produce to our kitchen and bar
- Plastic-Free Guest Experience – no visible single-use plastics throughout public areas
- Beach Cleanups – regular efforts to keep our shoreline wild and beautiful
- Zero-Waste Bar Program – composting fruit peels, herb stems, and citrus skins from our signature cocktails

Local Action for a Thriving Coastal Ecosystem
Protecting What’s Wild
We are committed to protecting the delicate ecosystem of Mawella Bay — not only for our guests to enjoy, but for the generations who will call this coastline home.
Key environmental efforts:
- Ongoing Biodiversity Studies – supporting research and conservation initiatives
- Local Ecosystem Education – engaging the community in sustainable practices
- CNVR Dog Program – sponsoring care, vaccinations, and neutering for Mawella’s beach dog population

More Than a Meal
Many of the products used in our kitchen and bar come directly from the families supported by the Prajava Gama Foundation. From fresh-baked bread and jams to natural soaps and snacks, dining here is a way to directly support the community — and taste the results of collective care.
We’re not just serving food — we’re sharing stories, values, and a way forward for tourism that’s truly local.
